I could let all that go except for that while I feel the teacher is extremely knowledgeable and talented he might benefit from a re-evaluation of how he teaches. His lecture videos end up being longer than I think they need to be as he seems unorganized and a bit unsure of all that he is going to talk about and in what order. I might be wrong but that's just the impression I've gotten so far. A few times he's mentioned a subject in the intro lecture video and then that subject never gets discussed, it's a bit frustrating.
Quick catch-up on week 04, 05 and 06.
Week 04 was on interior lighting. The lectures were still theory-heavy and our teacher did not do any practical examples. While all the information and reference images he went over were great I don't think there is an artist out there who would not have liked to have seen some practical examples.
A colleague of mine had recently modelled a Vespa scooter and had given it to me to test out. I loved it so I thought I would try to incorporate it in my shots for week 04. I started out by looking for reference. I mostly found photographs that used heavy vintage filters like you might see on Instagram. I thought that the look of a Vespa lends itself so well to vintage film and that seemed like a fun idea so I went with it.
I felt rushed this week. The consistently late delivery of the lectures turned my schedule around and I felt I had less time to work on this challenge than I would have liked, I only managed one frame and the challenge was to deliver 3. I felt it better to do one well than 3 half-way. Part of this challenge was delivering a breakdown of each of your lights. I made a mistake and left my GI on for each light's render so the breakdown is not as useful as it should be. Despite all that, I was happy with my character render.
I'm still not confident about taking another course with tdu. I'm about to really start gearing up at work for our current production and that's going to keep me very busy. I worry about taking a course at the same time and trying scheduling my week so nothing gets left behind. If lectures aren't delivered on time all my effort to schedule myself goes out the window! I'm hoping this is a one-time thing and not a usual occurrence with tdu.
